Transmission system

FGSZ Ltd by Shares is operating a fully integrated gas transmission system, which contains the following:

  • inlet points,
  • compressor stations,
  • pipeline nods,
  • high-pressure pipeline system, and
  • gas transfer stations.

The high-pressure pipeline system supplies gas to the regional gas distribution companies, power plants and the large industrial consumers.

The gas is fed into FGSZ Ltd’s high-pressure pipeline system through the gas inlet points, supplied from import sources, domestic gas fields and domestic gas storage facilities. The system is more than 5700 km long and includes steel pipelines, and the typical operating pressure is maximum 63 bar (in certain sections maximum 75 bar).

Gas turbine-driven centrifuge–type compressors are operating in the compressor stations built into the pipeline system, and they are responsible for increasing the system capacity by upgrading the gas pressure, and thus for delivering the gas through the pipeline to the end-consumers. There are presently six (6) compressor stations in operation. The main natural gas transmission nods are developed at the connecting points of the pipeline network, and they distribute and forward the natural gas to the distribution pipelines.

The natural gas transmitted through the pipeline system will be delivered at the gas transfer stations. There are at present nearly 400 such gas transfer stations in operation, and their key responsibility of to permanently deliver the gas, in a controlled process, to the operators of the inter-connecting systems and the direct industrial consumers. Quantity and quality of natural gas is permanently measured at every inlet and outlet point.

Complex telemechanic and remote control system is in operation in the natural gas transmission system, located at the system operator centre at Siófok and at the six (6) regional pipeline centres. Odorisation of natural gas is implemented in accordance with the relevant legal requirements and the specific contracts concluded with the consumers. The total steel pipeline network is fully equipped with a cathodic protection system in order to prevent corrosion of the pipelines.
