Memorandum of Understanding among 10 natural gas system operators about regional gas quality harmonisation
2024. 10. 29.
The memorandum was signed on Tuesday, 29th October in Budapest, before the ministerial-level CESEC (Central and South-Eastern Europe Energy Connectivity) meeting. With the agreement, the parties undertake to develop a joint regional harmonisation proposal until April 2025.
European system operators continuously work on extending supply routes and existing capacities, since the role of natural gas will be important during the energy transition in the upcoming years. However, to effectively realise developments, guaranteeing proper gas quality on a regional level will be very important, so coordination on developing a new, harmonised system has begun among TSOs.
Gas quality is not just a technical condition, it is also a condition of seamless transportation and use, thus that of warranting regional security of supply.
Beside FGSZ Ltd., the Hungarian system operator, nine more TSOs signed the document: DESFA (GR), ICGB (BG), Bulgartransgaz (BG), TRANSGAZ (RO), Vestmoldtransgaz (MD), Gas TSO of Ukraine (UA), Plinacro (HR), Nomagas (MK), and Plinovodi (SI).
By signing the memorandum, the parties commit to realising a more integrated, more secure, more efficient energy market.
