Regional Progress in Gas Quality Harmonisation
2026. 10. 02.
The cooperation agreement between FGSZ and Romania’s Transgaz, governing cross-border interconnection point operations, has been amended with regard to gas quality requirements. The change is linked to the regional gas quality harmonisation initiative developed within the framework of the Central and South Eastern Europe Energy Connectivity (CESEC) cooperation, in which FGSZ has taken a leading role.
The mutually acceptable gas quality parameter framework jointly developed by the transmission system operators participating in the CESEC High-Level Group initiative has since been incorporated into the Romanian regulatory environment. On the Hungarian side, no legislative amendments were required. This development made it possible to revise the cooperation agreement between the two companies.
The objective of the harmonisation proposal is to facilitate a more efficient utilisation of existing transmission infrastructure at the affected cross-border interconnection points through the application of aligned gas quality parameters, while also enabling more flexible and seamless transportation of natural gas from diverse sources. The significance of the initiative is underscored by the fact that the proposal, jointly developed by eight transmission system operators in the region, supports the creation of a more integrated regional gas market by taking into account future source diversification and changing supply routes.
FGSZ remains committed to promoting the broader adoption of harmonised gas quality requirements across regional cooperation frameworks and related cross-border agreements.
