2023. 10. 13.

The joint publications of the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority and the MAVIR Hungarian Independent Transmission Operator Company Ltd, and the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority and FGSZ Natural Gas Transmission Closed Company Ltd summarize the main operational data of the year 2022 performance of the Hungarian natural gas and electricity systems.

The annual reports outline, among other things, the operating models of the electricity and natural gas sectors, the principal characteristics of licensed companies, the most important operating data of the sectors, as well as the domestic electricity and natural gas consumption and source structure.

This year's publications reveal, in addition to other facts, that despite the international energy crisis, Hungary's energy supply was secured in terms of both electricity and natural gas last year. In 2022, the summer peak load of the electricity system decreased by 2% compared to the record in 2021, while the winter peak value again set a record, rising by another half percent compared to the previous year. The installed capacity of the domestic electricity system (small household-sized power plants included) increased from 11 440.8 MW in 2021 to 12 475.3 MW by the end of 2022. Hungary's net natural gas imports increased by 1,838 million m3 in 2022, which enabled Hungarian natural gas storage facilities to reach a capacity level of 86.4% by the start of the heating season. Overall, domestic natural gas consumption decreased by 14.9% to 9.41 billion m3 compared to the consumption of 11.06 billion m3 in 2021.
