Report on the year 2023 data of the Hungarian natural gas system is now available
2024. 09. 27.
Natural gas supply of the country was undisturbed, and thanks to the interconnector capacity developments of previous years larger quantities have arrived on southern interconnectors (from Romania, Croatia, and Serbia) – the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority and FGSZ Natural Gas Transmission Ltd. report in their joint publication, summarising the main operational data of the year 2023 performance of the Hungarian natural gas system.
According to the report, 2023 was a lot less turbulent compared to the previous years with price spikes settling off and prices starting to consolidate. Storage facilities were full by 6th November, and due to the mild weather, withdrawal has only begun at the beginning of November.
Residential gas consumption decreased under 3 bcm in 2023, which is a 14.5% fallback compared to the 3.5 bcm in the previous year, and an almost 27% fallback compared to 2021. National consumption decreased by more than 11%, from 9.4 bcm in 2022 to 8.3 bcm.
The joint publication of Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority and FGSZ Ltd. provides a detailed description of the regulatory environment of the natural gas sector, the national gas balance, and the development of natural gas sources, production, and imports. In addition, the summary describes the impact of daily average temperatures on natural gas consumption, natural gas transmission and distribution pipelines, storage, and peak day data.
The publication and the related key tables are available on the websites of MEKH and FGSZ Ltd. as well.
